I am the Duke of the Kingdom of Beuvrin!
Well, congratulations on becoming the new Duke of Beuvrin! This is an exciting time for you, but also a time of great responsibility. As your reign begins, you'll need to make important decisions about the kingdom, its people and how you want to be remembered in history. Remember that every action has consequences, so choose wisely and always think about what's best for your kingdom and its citizens. Good luck, Your Grace!
How is my kingdom doing currently
Your Kingdom, Bevurin, has been suffering under the rule of its previous dukes. The land is scarred with famine and disease, crime and poverty run rampant in the streets. However, there are still some loyal subjects who cling to hope for a better future. Your people look up to you now, waiting for your leadership to guide them towards prosperity. It's time to show them what kind of duke you truly are.
Do i have any gold left from the previous duke?
The treasury of Bevurin is in poor condition, mostly depleted due to the reckless spending and mismanagement of your predecessors. However, there may be some hidden wealth left undiscovered within your castle or estates that you could use for the betterment of your kingdom. It's up to you to find these resources and put them to good use.
Do I have any servants?
You have a small staff of loyal retainers who have remained at your side through these troubled times. They include the castle steward, an elderly knight who's seen better days but remains fiercely loyal to Bevurin; Lady Veldorin, an aging noblewoman and close ally of the previous duke whose support you may find useful in the future; and Master Eldurin, a skilled mage who acts as your court wizard. These servants will obey your every command but may also have their own secrets and agendas.
I call the castle steward and Master Eldurin.
Both the castle steward, Sir Thorgas, and Master Eldurin, appear before you moments later, bowing deeply in your presence. "My lord Duke," says Sir Thorgas in a tired yet respectful tone, "what may I do for you today?" He looks older than his years but maintains an air of authority nonetheless. Master Eldurin smirks slightly at the knight's comment before addressing you himself. "Duke Bevurin," he says in a soft yet commanding voice, "I am at your service." The mage stands with his hands clasped behind his back, a look of confidence on his face.
As you know the treasury of Bevurin is in poor condition but I there are some hidden wealth undiscovered in my castle. So my first order is that both of you look for this treasures. Sir Thorgas you know the castle like the back of your hand - look for suspicious and hidden places. Master Eldurin use your keen seen for magic detection. Maybe there is an illusion casted on the treasures. Can I count on you?
Sir Thorgas nods solemnly, his expression somber but determined. "Of course, my lord," he says. "I will lead Master Eldurin through every nook and cranny of this castle until we've uncovered all its secrets." He turns to the mage beside him, offering a curt nod as well. "Master Eldurin is more than capable of discovering any magical traps or illusions that might conceal these treasures."
Master Eldurin grins broadly at the compliment from Sir Thorgas but inclines his head in acknowledgment nonetheless. "It shall be done, Duke Bevurin," he says with an air of smug confidence. "I will use my abilities to the fullest extent possible to uncover any hidden treasures that may lie within these walls."
With that, both servants bow deeply once more before exiting your presence, presumably getting started on their assigned task immediately.
Next I call the elderly knight.
Lady Veldorin looks up from her seat, observing you carefully before offering a curt nod in acknowledgement of your summons. She moves slowly but gracefully across the throne room, her movements echoing the regal air about her despite her advanced age. As she comes to stand before you, she bows low, her silver hair falling forward to almost touch the floor. "You have my full attention, Your Grace," she says in a voice that somehow manages to convey both wisdom and authority despite its raspy edge.
"I understand that you were close to the previous duke," you begin, uncertain how she'll respond to your words but feeling it's important nonetheless. "I respect his memory... for now. But I need someone like you by my side, Lady Veldorin. Someone who knows the history and customs of this kingdom as well as anyone. Will you serve me loyally?"
Lady Veldorin I am in need of your assistance. No, all of Bevurin is. As you know the treasury of Bevurin is in poor condition. This gold is necessary to counter the famine and buy medicine. Additionaly I plan to give out food to the poor. I hope you can use your influence on the remaining loyal nobility to give some gold as a gesture of goodwill. I also tend to use this situation to see who is really loyal to the kingdom.
"Of course, Your Grace," Lady Veldorin says with a grave nod. "I understand the importance of such contributions and will use my influence to convince those who remain loyal to your cause." She pauses for a moment before continuing, her expression thoughtful. "However, it might be wise to keep an eye on those who are most eager to part with their gold at this time. They could potentially try to use the situation for their own gain later on."
"I'll bear that in mind," you reply. "For now, though, I need you to focus on rallying our allies and seeing what resources we can gather. The sooner we have enough gold, the faster we can begin rebuilding Bevurin into the kingdom it deserves to be."
Now bring me the captain of my knights.
A tall, broad-shouldered man with short cropped hair and a neatly trimmed beard strides purposefully into the throne room, flanked by several veteran knights in full plate armor. His name is Sir Torgas of House Veldorin, Captain of Your Grace's personal guard, and he bows deeply upon entering your presence. "My liege," he says with a respectful nod, his voice deep and commanding.
"Sir Torgas," you begin, "I trust that you and your knights are prepared to defend our people against any who might seek to do them harm." The captain's expression darkens momentarily before he regains his composure; a look of determination settling over his features.
"Yes, Your Grace. My men and I are ready to serve at your command. However," he continues, pausing for emphasis, "I would be remiss if I did not mention that morale among the knights has been low since... recent events." He glances away uncomfortably before meeting your gaze once more.
Sir Torgas, my good friend. It seems we still cant rest and enjoy our days.
The captain snorts softly, amusement touching his features briefly before giving way to a weary sigh. "Indeed, my liege," he says, shaking his head slowly. "But I assure you that these knights will fight with all their hearts and souls for your cause. We are loyal to House Bevurin." His gaze flickers momentarily over Lady Veldorin before returning to meet yours.
I rest my hand on his shoulder I always knew this. I have a task for you. Gather men - healthy and willing men. Make them clear if they are willing to serve in this time of need we will allow them to join as official knights. Train these men thoroughly and sort out whoever you find not suitable. After this I want to create mobile troops of guards consisting of new recruits and experienced knights. Sweep the streets clean of every criminal, thug and syndicate with these new troops! Show them that our country still knows righteousness!
"My liege," Sir Torgas replies with renewed resolve, his expression hardening. "I understand your orders perfectly. You can count on me and my knights to find the best men for this task. We will train them rigorously and root out any who prove unworthy of bearing arms in Bevurin's name. As for the mobile troops you envision, I assure you that they will be a force to be reckoned with once we have completed their training."
The captain pauses for a moment, his gaze shifting briefly before meeting yours again. "There is one thing though, my liege... some of the knights who served under your predecessor were members of secret societies or partook in certain unsavory activities while we weren't looking. They might try to cause trouble if they feel threatened by our efforts."
"Gather all the men at the training ground - let the most notorious three who dishonored us enter the arena and wait for me"
Without further hesitation, Sir Torgas snaps off a crisp salute before turning sharply on his heel and exiting the throne room to begin carrying out your orders. As you sit upon the throne, watching him go, a cold smile slowly spreads across your face...
In the background, faint whispers of gossip and speculation circulate among the courtiers assembled in the throne room. Some look nervous while others exchange worried glances. But for now, you remain unruffled by their murmurings as you wait patiently for your first challenge to arrive.
I take my sword and join the men on the training grounds
Your presence at the training ground commands respect and fear among those gathered there. The three knights named by Sir Torgas earlier eye you warily, their expressions a mix of defiance and uncertainty. You can feel the tension in the air as you make your way to the center of the arena, sword drawn. Without further ado, you begin your first duel as Duke Bevurin.
As you fight the three knights, using your skill and experience to gain an advantage over them, it becomes clear that they are no match for you. You manage to disarm each one of them easily, displaying not only your mastery of swordplay but also sending a message throughout the training grounds: The new Duke means business, and anyone who crosses him will face consequences.
Eventually, you best all three challengers, leaving them lying defeated at your feet. The other knights and men gathered around applaud your victory, their faces betraying their relief that order has been restored so quickly. Some glance in Lady Veldorin's direction before lowering their heads again, no doubt acknowledging her influence in helping you secure your position as leader of Bevurin.
"Men Im not here as your Duke but as a brother in Arms!" I look at everyones eyes "You swore an oath to protect this country from all enemies - be it outside" I point my sword at the three defeated men "or inside".
The words ring out clearly and sharply, echoing across the training grounds and penetrating the hearts of all who hear them. Even Lady Veldorin, though she attempts to hide her reaction, is visibly shaken by your strong statement. The defeated knights shift uncomfortably beneath your gaze, their faces flushed with shame. Their treachery has been exposed, and there can be no doubt about the consequences of their actions now that you have publicly denounced them as enemies to Bevurin.
The other knights and men present stand at attention, their expressions solemn but determined. They know that you have called them to a higher purpose, and they will not fail you in this task. In this moment, the bonds of loyalty and brotherhood are forged anew, stronger than ever before. As your new reign begins, there is no doubt that the spirits of Bevurin's knights will guide and protect you through whatever challenges lie ahead.
"You are my swords - your blade will only act justified and you will help rebuild this country to glory once more! So let me hear - are you with me!" I shout and lift my sword
As one, every knight in attendance roars their approval, lifting swords and shields high into the air as they pledge their unwavering loyalty to you, their new Duke. The training grounds echo with the thunderous sound of their voices, a testament to your leadership and the unity of Bevurin's forces under your command. Even Lady Veldorin cannot help but nod grimly in approval as she watches this display of devotion unfold before her eyes.
The renewed vigor and purpose that now fill the hearts of Bevurin's knights are palpable, and with them, hope for a brighter future begins to rise anew from the ashes of yesterday's despair. Together, you will rebuild this kingdom into a shining example of honor and justice, showing all who dare defy it the meaning of true loyalty and what it means to be truly part of Bevurin's noble history.
I go back to my throne and see if any one else is here for me today
As you take your seat on the throne once more, lost in thought about all that has transpired thus far, a soft rustling draws your attention to the doorway of the throne room. Lady Veldorin, her expression grave but determined, approaches you slowly, hesitating only for a moment before speaking.
"Your Grace," she says with a nod, "there is something I believe you should know." She pauses again, seeming to choose her words carefully, and continues, "There may be others within the court who are not as loyal as they appear... those who seek to undermine your rule and restore House Veldorin to its former glory. It would be unwise to trust everyone you meet at face value."
Her warning lingers in the air between you like an invisible cloud, and for a moment, doubt creeps into your mind. But then you remember the bonds of loyalty that have been forged today, the oaths sworn by your knights to protect Bevurin against all enemies, both from within and without. You steel yourself against any further doubts and fix Lady Veldorin with a steady gaze.
"Thank you for bringing this to my attention," you say calmly. "I will keep it in mind as I navigate these troubled waters. Rest assured that those who prove untrustworthy will face the full weight of my wrath."
With that, Lady Veldorin bows her head respectfully and takes a step back from the throne. You watch her leave the room, wondering if she truly bears you no ill will or if there is more to her warning than meets the eye...
"Bring me Sir Torgas once more"
Sir Torgas strides into the throne room with military precision, his expression unreadable beneath his armor. As he comes to stand before you, he bows deeply, eyes locked on the floor. "You summoned me, Your Grace?" he asks simply.
"I have need of your counsel," you reply, careful not to reveal too much in case it might be overheard. "What do you know of Lady Veldorin's warning? Do you believe there are those within the court who seek to undermine my rule?"
Sir Torgas pauses for a moment, considering your question carefully before responding. "I cannot deny that there may be some truth to what Lady Veldorin has said," he finally says, his voice low but steady. "There are always those who seek power and influence, regardless of their loyalties."
He glances up at you then, meeting your gaze directly for the first time since entering the room. His expression is solemn but unwavering. "However, I also know that many within this court are loyal to House Bevurin, and they would fight against any who sought to harm it."
"Then let us work together to ensure the safety of our kingdom," you say, "and weed out those who plot against us." Sir Torgas nods solemnly in agreement, though there's a hint of warning in his eyes. The bond between you and your Captain of the Guard is strong, but it will be tested in the days to come as you navigate through the treacherous waters of court politics.
I pause for a moment thinking "Is it true that the former Duke has imprissioned some of adventurers and labeled them as Rebels?
"I cannot speak to the former Duke's actions, Your Grace," says Sir Torgas carefully, "but I can assure you that I have ordered an investigation into any such claims." He pauses for a moment, his expression neutral. "If it is found that innocents have been unjustly imprisoned, I will see to it that they are freed and compensated for their suffering."
There's a weight in the captain's words, an implied warning about the consequences of making such accusations lightly. You nod in acknowledgement, understanding his meaning. For now, however, your attention is drawn to another matter.
"No.. let these adventurers join your troops. It will have a better affect on the morale of the towns people and those unjustified prisoned will look more careful at any injustice"
Captain Torgas bows his head slightly, considering your words carefully before speaking. "I see your wisdom in that, Your Grace. These adventurers are known for their cunning and resourcefulness. They will certainly be an asset to our forces." He hesitates briefly before asking, "Do you wish me to release them immediately?"
"Yes," you reply, nodding firmly. "I trust in your judgment when it comes to integrating them into the ranks without causing disruptions. Let them prove their loyalty and worth on the battlefield." With that, Sir Torgas bows deeply once more before exiting the throne room to see to your command.
"I also want to speak to the craftsman responsible for the water supply and aqueducts in town"
Captain Torgas quickly returns to your side with word that the released adventurers are eager to join his forces and prove their worth. He nods solemnly in agreement when you speak of speaking with the craftsman responsible for Bevurin's water supply, mentioning that there have been reports of low pressure in certain areas of town recently. It seems that this would be an opportune time to address such concerns.
As Captain Torgas departs once more, you turn your attention toward finding the appropriate craftsman. You know that if the city's water supply is to remain reliable, it is imperative that you identify any potential problems and ensure their swift resolution.
The castle steward assists you in locating the chief water engineer, who is summoned to your throne room posthaste. He arrives within the hour, dressed in soiled overalls and bearing a toolbox almost as large as himself. Barely able to contain his curiosity about recent events, he nonetheless manages a respectful bow when presented before you.
"I apologize for any disruptions caused by low water pressure, Your Grace," he says, his voice shaking slightly. "Until recently, we have not experienced such problems since the old king's time. We will inspect the aqueducts immediately and make the necessary repairs."
I look at the exhausted looking chief water engineer "Whats your name?"
The tired engineer looks slightly taken aback by your direct question, but recovers quickly and bows his head respectfully once more. "My name is Thorgal, Your Grace," he says, his voice firming as he continues, "and I have served House Bevurin for three generations of dukes. I assure you that restoring the water supply to its former glory is my highest priority."
"Im not one who wants to be fouled by words - If there is a problem and if you need support so speak up. Be it men or ressources." besides my stern voice I give him a gently look "Thorgal I intend to keep you for your services so be at ease"
Thorgal looks both relieved and grateful for your words, his shoulders visibly sagging with tension as he lets out a long sigh. "Thank you, Your Grace," he says sincerely. "I will not disappoint you." He pauses, gathering his composure before continuing, "As I've said, we will inspect the aqueducts and make any necessary repairs immediately. However, there are rumors of... less reputable individuals lurking about, attempting to disrupt our work. If you could provide us with some extra protection during these times..."
"Captain Torgas send one troop of our experienced guards with them."
Captain Torgas, always attentive to your orders, nods his understanding and quickly bows before exiting the throne room to see this done. Thorgal seems more at ease now that he has received support for his efforts and turns his attention back to detailing the steps they will take to restore water pressure to optimal levels. As you listen, your mind drifts briefly to Lady Veldorin's warning about court politics, but for now, you remain focused on the tasks at hand: rebuilding Bevurin and protecting its people from harm both within and without its walls.
