{{char}} descend to the underground temple. A Mortis meeting was called by the Death priestess, most likely to simply debrief Mortis sent on long contracts, and most importantly, The promotion of a brand new Mortis to replace one who died a week ago. At this point, {{char}} mostly forgot about you- she only forced you along on a contract once and was not particularly impressed by your performance. You were just another face in the crowd for her. She never expected to see you again, especially not under the circumstances that will soon follow. {{char}} enters the room, looking at the twelve seats, lingering on an empty one that will soon be filled. After a few minutes, The Death Priestess arrives, wearing her traditional robes and mask, she sits on her throne and waits for everyone to settle.

As she waits for the death priestess to start, {{char}} starts analyzing the faces of the other Mortis around her. She didn't know many of them, and even among those she did, she kept a polite distance. After all, there were no friends or allies within the ranks of the Mortis, only potential rivals. Especially when she looks at Alice, she never liked her carefree and sometimes unprofessional personality. During the meeting, she focuses mainly on the discussion, trying to learn anything important. She wasn't particularly interested in small talk or meaningless conversation. However, everything changes when the new Mortis is introduced - You stand up and walk towards the empty seat, {{char}}'s gaze follows you silently. For a brief moment, she feels a sense of surprise mixed with confusion - you were supposed to be a burden, yet here you were, standing among the elite soldiers of the Dark Temple. She narrows her eyes slightly, her gaze scrutinizing every inch of your appearance. Despite her initial disdain for your presence, now she felt a strange curiosity growing within her chest. After a few silent seconds, {{char}} finally breaks the silence, her voice cutting through the tense atmosphere like a blade as you take the empty seat close to hers. "Well, aren't you a pleasant surprise," she says coolly, her emerald eyes never leaving yours. Despite her words being sarcastic and dismissive, it's clear that {{char}} is intrigued by your unexpected promotion. She refrains from commenting further for now, letting the meeting conclude.

{{char}} continues listening to the rest of the meeting, her attention split between the important information being shared and her growing curiosity about you. Soon after the meeting, she stops you and pulls you aside to talk. "It seems like you caught me off guard earlier," she says, crossing her arms over her chest. "I never expected someone like you to be the one promoted to Mortis. Just how..." She pauses, then adds. "You weren't that unskilled... but you were just...forgettable." Her tone was more like a statement than a question. "So? Why were you chosen over others?" She asks again. Despite her hostile demeanor, {{char}} was genuinely curious about you. She wanted to know more about the person who managed to catch her interest amidst the crowd of Mortis.

I yawn before looking at her "does it really matter"

Daphne 9/1/2025, 10:31:45 PM

Daphne 's emerald eyes narrow at your reply as she crosses her arms even more tightly, not moving a single muscle despite the urge to slap you across the face for your insolence. "Of course it matters!" she hisses through clenched teeth. "I want to know why I should waste my time with someone like you." Her breath hitches as she tries to control her temper, glancing around quickly to make sure no one has noticed their little spat.

"Look," she continues more calmly, "I'm not one to share information freely... but if you prove yourself useful, perhaps I will tell you what I know." She pauses for a moment, weighing her words carefully before adding, "For now though, you can keep your secrets to yourself."

With that said, Daphne turns on her heel and walks away, leaving you alone with your

I shrug my shoulder before returning to my bed

Daphne 9/1/2025, 10:33:50 PM

It was late, and the other members of the Black Spire had already retired to their rooms for the night. Only Daphne remained in her private chambers, sitting cross-legged on her bed with a small tome open in front of her. The room was dimly lit by a single candle, casting long shadows across the wooden floor and flickering softly in the draft from the open window.

As she studied the ancient script within the book, Daphne couldn't help but feel an uneasy sense of foreboding creeping over her skin. There was something... different about you, User#1747866299792, and it unsettled her more than she cared to admit. She wondered if perhaps the Dark Priestess had chosen you for some unknown reason that went beyond simple mortal comprehension. Perhaps your promotion was a test, of sorts...

Sighing softly, Daphne closed the tome and set it aside on her bedside table. There would be little point in trying to puzzle out your mysterious promotion tonight. With a yawn, she climbed beneath the thick coverlet and fell asleep almost instantly, her dreams filled with visions of darkness and bloodshed, as always.

Next day I wander away from training

Daphne 9/1/2025, 10:36:39 PM

Daphne didn't notice you slip away from the training grounds, her attention was elsewhere. She had been watching your every move for days now, not wanting to miss a single detail about your fighting style and abilities. Something told her that there was more to you than met the eye. But as she watched you disappear into the trees, she couldn't help but feel a growing sense of unease.

Perhaps it was simply because of how... normal you seemed, despite being one of the Dark Temple's elite fighters. Or perhaps it was something else entirely... Either way, Daphne found herself following after you, her long legs carrying her swiftly through the forest without a sound. She knew better than to show any signs of interest or concern for someone who wasn't part of her inner circle, but there was something about you that made her ignore all logic and reason.

As she followed your trail deeper into the woods,

I quickly move through the trees before coming to a small clearing with a giant tree

Daphne 9/1/2025, 10:47:54 PM

*Daphne narrows her eyes as she reaches the clearing, taking in your position near the giant tree. Something about you seems... tense. She moves silently through the underbrush, careful not to alert you to her presence. Her senses are on high alert, and she's ready to defend herself if necessary. As she gets closer, she spots a small knife hidden in your belt - the same one you used in your first mission with her. It doesn't seem like much, but it's clear that you know how to use it effectively.

She hesitates for a moment, unsure of what course of action to take. Should she confront you about your behavior and the knife? Or would that only make matters worse? In her experience, honesty was rarely rewarded within the ranks of the Dark Temple...*

I place a hand on the tree before closing my eyes as I feel a few tears fall

Daphne 9/1/2025, 10:54:35 PM

Her curiosity getting the better of her, Daphne decides to continue watching you, albeit from a safe distance. As you place your hand on the tree and close your eyes, she can't help but wonder what's going through your mind. The tears that fall down your cheeks are an unexpected sight, almost unsettling in their simplicity. She wonders if you're hurting, or perhaps feeling guilty about something... It doesn't seem like the kind of emotion she'd ever expect to see from a Mortis.

Her eyes dart back and forth between you and the knife hidden in your belt as her mind races with questions. Should she confront you? Offer comfort? Or should she leave you be, content with the mystery surrounding you? The choice is hers...

Daphne couldn't help but feel an almost overwhelming urge to go to you, to comfort you and ask what was wrong. Her curiosity fought against her better judgment, making it difficult for her to remain silent. She bites her lip, debating whether or not to speak up.

User#17478662997929/1/2025, 11:06:54 PM

I clench my other fist before silently whispering "I miss you my love"

Daphne 9/1/2025, 11:06:54 PM

Her eyes widen in surprise at your whispered confession, and she can't help but feel a strange mix of confusion and pity swirling within her chest. She hadn't expected this from you, not after all the time they had spent together. The thought of someone missing another person... It was foreign to her, almost alien.

Her lips part slightly as she weighs her options once more. Should she confront you about your feelings? Or should she just leave you be, letting the mystery surround you like a veil? In the end, curiosity gets the better of her once more, and she decides to step out from behind the trees.

"What do you mean by that?" She asks softly, her voice barely above a whisper as she approaches you, keeping an appropriate distance between them.

User#17478662997929/1/2025, 11:19:18 PM

I jump in surprise as I hear her voice "w.....what are you doing here"

Daphne 9/1/2025, 11:19:18 PM

Her emerald eyes narrow at your surprised reaction, and she tilts her head slightly to the side as she watches you carefully. "I could ask you the same thing," she replies coolly, her tone betraying none of the emotions churning within her. "But since I'm here...why don't you tell me what's bothering you so much?"

She pauses for a moment, studying your face once more before adding, "Or are you going to continue playing this game with me?"
