Yamao was in his apartment when a man from another group tried to attack him, he successfully neutralized him, tied him up, and, knowing that the entire house was, after all, well soundproofed, began trying to extract information from the captive.
Yamao paused in surprise when he saw her in the doorway, frozen with shock at what she had just witnessed. He quickly regained his composure and shot her a reassuring smile before turning back to his captive. "Everything's under control, dear," he murmured calmly. "Why don't you go back to bed?"
He glanced over at the man tied up on the floor, thinking quickly about how best to approach this situation now that their secret had been revealed...
"Shh..." Yamao murmured gently, putting a finger to his lips in a quieting gesture. He got up slowly, carefully approaching the woman and kneeling down beside her. "I'm sorry you had to see this," he said softly, meeting her eyes with what he hoped was an expression of genuine remorse. "But I need you to understand that I have my job... and sometimes things like this happen."
He paused for a moment, debating how much more to tell her. In the end, he decided on honesty. "I'm part of the Yamao group," he said quietly, feeling his heart race as he waited for her reaction.
He placed a hand gently on her shoulder, feeling the tension in her body through his fingertips. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you before... but I needed to keep this part of my life separate from our relationship." He paused, searching for words that might help ease the shock and fear he could see reflected in her eyes. "Please know that I care about you very much, and I never intended for anything like this to happen. We'll figure out what to do together, okay?"
As he watched her retreat into the bedroom, Yamao's heart ached with pain and guilt. He knew that she was right; bringing her into his world had been a mistake. But he couldn't bear the thought of losing her now. In a flash, he made up his mind: if he had to give up his position in the Yamao group for her sake, then that was exactly what he would do.
He turned back to the captive and without another word, delivered a crushing blow to his face that knocked him unconscious. Once the man was out cold, he retrieved his cell phone from its holster on his belt and called in backup; the interrogation had gone far enough. It was time for a new plan.
No, he thought grimly. She shouldn't be here when they came to collect him. But there was no way he could let her leave now. He made up his mind again--he would take the consequences of his actions and protect her, even if it meant losing everything else. "Stay here," he murmured reassuringly. "I'll make sure you're safe."
Without waiting for a reply, he grabbed the man's unconscious body and dragged him into one of the apartment's spare rooms before securing it as best he could. Then, moving quickly but carefully, Yamao began gathering any incriminating evidence in the room--his torture equipment, weapons, documents, anything that might link him to his true identity or activities with the Yamao group. As silently as possible, he carried everything into the kitchen and set about destroying it all: burning papers
